Mortgage Prize Draw

Wouldn’t it be lovely to be mortgage free? Next month, could it be you?

What you could win

  • Every month, we'll pay off someone's mortgage up to the value of £300,000.
  • There are also 100 monthly prizes of £1,000 cash.

Not having a mortgage to pay each month could make a big difference – could you be the one going through this life changing moment next month?

The important bit...

To qualify for the monthly prize draw, you must at the time of the draw:

  • Have registered to take part
  • Have a Halifax mortgage on your home in England, Wales or Scotland
  • Hold an existing Halifax or Bank of Scotland personal retail current account and have paid at least £1,500 into it the month before the draw
  • If you hold more than one eligible mortgage account we will pay off the one with the highest balance, up to £300,000.

You will not qualify for the draw if:

  • Your property is or will be let to tenants or
  • Your mortgage is part of our Deedstore Scheme or
  • There are arrears on your mortgage account. For the purpose of these rules, arrears means when a total sum of £1 or more of the monthly payment(s) due remain unpaid at the time of the draw.

  • 1. The draw, and how to join in

The Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw is a series of monthly free prize draws.

You can take part in one or more of these monthly draws if you:

    • have a Halifax mortgage over your own home in England, Wales or Scotland;
    • have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland branded personal retail current account that’s been open throughout the calendar month before the draw, with £1,500 or
    • more paid in during that month;
    • live in England, Wales or Scotland and
    • have registered for the Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw, and agreed to these rules.

You can register online at Halifax.co.uk or in one of our branches. By registering you agree to these rules. You’re responsible for making sure your details are correct.

Entering the draw will not affect the terms of your mortgage or personal retail current account, including interest rates and charges.

The prizes for each monthly draw are:

    • one prize to pay off the winner’s Halifax mortgage (up to £300,000); and
    • one hundred prizes of £1,000.

    2. Bear in mind

You will not qualify for the draw if:

    • your property is or will be let to tenants; or
    • your mortgage is part of our Deedstore Scheme; or
    • there are arrears on your mortgage account. For the purpose of these rules, arrears means when a total sum of £1 or more of the monthly payment(s) due remain unpaid at the time of the draw.

Your mortgage can be in more than one name and everyone named on the mortgage should register for the draw separately if they want to take part. Each customer who registers will be entered into the draw as long as they qualify.

    3. Your current account

    • must be held in your name and can be a joint account you have with someone else; and
    • must be a personal account, not an account you have for business purposes or where you are signatory for an organisation.

We won’t include you in a draw if you have closed your Halifax mortgage, or you don’t have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland personal retail current account that’s been open throughout the calendar month before the draw with £1,500 or more paid in during that month.

If you close your mortgage or current account, and later take out another qualifying Halifax mortgage or open a qualifying Halifax or Bank of Scotland current account, we will treat you as still registered to take part in the Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw under the draw rules applying at the time (unless you have opted out under these rules). You will need to meet all qualifying criteria which apply at the time, including paying at least £1,500 into your qualifying current account to be entered in to each monthly draw. The draw rules are always available on the Halifax website.

For our top prize of paying off your Halifax mortgage (up to £300,000) the following will apply:

    • it will be paid directly to the qualifying mortgage account held by the customer who has registered for the draw, there is no cash alternative; and
    • any early repayment charges which would normally apply will not be charged; and
    • where a customer holds more than one eligible mortgage account we will pay off one account, the one with the highest balance (up to £300,000).

Our other prizes will normally be paid in to the eligible Halifax or Bank of Scotland personal retail current account held by the winner.

If you have a joint mortgage and you win one of the £1,000 prizes, you should consider whether your relationship with your fellow mortgage customers means you should split your winnings with them. Bear in mind that your prize will be paid to the Halifax or Bank of Scotland personal retail current account held by the winner which may not be an account solely in your name.

We may temporarily increase the number or size of prizes for one-off special draws. If we do this we don’t have to notify you or change these rules, but we’ll advertise the prizes on our website and in branch.

    4. The draw, and how it works

We carry out the draw every month, during the first five working days.

We pick winners at random from the qualifying entries for that month. Everyone who qualifies to take part has an equal chance of winning.

Each draw will be monitored by our independent adjudicator, KPMG LLP.

Within 30 days of the draw we will write to the potential winners. Please tell us if you change your postal or email address. If you’ve won, we’ll tell you how to claim your prize, what information we need from you before we can pay and how your prize will be paid.

If you’re a winner we can ask you to take part in publicity. You don’t have to agree. You also don’t have to accept your prize.

    5. Other important information

    In these rules:

    • where we say ‘month’ we mean calendar month; and
    • a Bank of Scotland branded personal retail current account is a personal current account sold through our retail business under the Bank of Scotland brand, and does not include any of the other brand names used by Bank of Scotland such as Intelligent Finance (IF), Bank of Scotland Private Banking or St James’ Place Bank.

The Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw will run indefinitely until we end it under these rules.

The Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw is not currently available in Northern Ireland. If in future we’re satisfied that the law in Northern Ireland has changed appropriately, we may allow customers living there to take part. We can do this without notifying you personally, although we will let you know on our website and in branch.

You are not eligible for the draw if you or any other person named on the mortgage are an employee of any company in the Lloyds Banking Group. If you become an employee of Lloyds Banking Group after you have registered for the draw, you will not be eligible for any of the following monthly draws, but you can enter again if you later stop being employed within the Group.

You are also not eligible if you are someone who is engaged as a supplier, or employed by a supplier, and you are directly involved in or help with the draw.

If we can’t carry out a draw on the scheduled date and time, and it isn’t cancelled under these rules, it will take place as soon as reasonably possible afterwards.

We won’t be responsible to any qualifying customer if a draw cannot go ahead, or is delayed or cancelled, because of a legal or regulatory issue, a systems failure and the failure by any third party or any cause beyond our reasonable control.

We try our best to make sure our records are correct, and that only qualifying customers enter each draw. However it’s possible that in a small number of cases, a non-qualifying customer could be entered or a qualifying customer enter more than once. If a qualifying customer is entered more than once we won’t be responsible to other entrants. But we’ll take reasonable steps to stop a customer from winning more than one prize in that draw.

If a qualifying customer is left out of our records for any draw, we will not be responsible to them for any potential win they could have had. We’re also not responsible if we inadvertently pay a prize to someone who doesn’t qualify, but we’ll take reasonable steps to make sure this doesn’t happen and where we discover such an error will pay the prize to the next eligible person we randomly select.

In all matters relating to the Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw our decision is final, and we don’t have to respond to questions.

Before paying any prize, we can require any potential winner to provide reasonable proof of their identity, and that they were living in England, Wales or Scotland at the end of the month before the draw took place. For this purpose we reserve the right to make enquiries about where you live and it is our policy to disregard short term absences of up to three months from England, Wales or Scotland.

We can require winners or their representatives to attend at one of our branches to verify their details.

If we pay a prize to anyone who falsely claims to have won, that person must pay back the prize money to us, as well as our extra costs, losses, damages and expenses.

During the six months following any draw, you can request a list of winners’ names and counties from any of our branches.

A potential winner will no longer be entitled to a prize if:

    • we’ve had no response to our letter, email or other communication to tell the potential winner about their prize for at least six months from sending the letter; or
    • we’ve not been able to send a letter because post has been returned from the address, we have not been able to make contact in other ways and more than six months has passed since the relevant draw; or
    • if having contacted a potential winner, we find out that they do not qualify, or they haven’t supplied the information we have asked for or attended one of our branches as requested.

If this happens we will give the unclaimed prize to a charity or charities supported by Lloyds Banking Group.

If a potential winner who was a qualifying customer at the point we tried to contact them tries to claim a prize after the six month period and there is a reasonable excuse for the delay, we may decide to award the prize but do not have to do so.

If you don’t want to take part in any future monthly draws, please tell us in writing at FREEPOST, Halifax Mortgages Prize Draw.

    6. Changes

We can cancel any of the monthly draws, or stop running the Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw, without telling you beforehand where we can’t continue because of:

    • a legal or regulatory issue,
    • a systems failure;
    • the failure of any third party to carry out their services; or
    • for any other reason beyond our reasonable control.

If this happens we will let you know by putting a notice on our website.

We can also stop running the Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw for any reason, or change any of these rules (for example to reduce the number or size of prizes) by giving you notice.

If we stop running the Halifax Mortgage Prize Draw, or change these rules, we’ll give you notice on our website and in branch. If the change could affect you adversely, we’ll do this at least two months in advance.

If the change is beneficial or neutral, we will let you know within a month of the change happening. Where the change could affect you adversely and we have a current address for you, we will also write to you at least two months in advance. We can do this by post, email or other forms of written communication. You can opt out of future draws if you do not want to take part after the change.
