Make the most of your Money Smart debit card with our video guide.

How to budget

  • Keep an eye on how much you spend each month. The easiest way to do this is by using our Mobile Banking app.
  • Work out your budget by creating a list of the money coming in and the money going out of your account. This will help you work out how much you might be able to save.
  • Once you know your budget, use our savings calculators to set your savings goal.

How to be a savvy spender

  • Use the 24-hour rule to avoid impulse buying. Give yourself 24 hours to think about whether you really need it and can afford it. This will help avoid wasting your money on things you might regret later.
  • Shop smart by shopping around. Compare prices to find the best deal. You might save money and make your budget stretch further.
  • Create an emergency fund by moving any spare money into your Smart Savings Account each month. You’ll be prepared for that last-minute gig you want to go to or gift you need to buy.
