How to manage your text alerts.

Text alerts explained

  • Receive alerts for your use of arranged and unarranged overdrafts.
  • Track your savings account applications.
  • If we have your up-to-date mobile number, we'll automatically enrol you into this service. Learn how to update your number.

How to do it

Let us show you step by step.

We'll text you when you've started or are about to start using your arranged overdraft. We'll also let you know when we start charging you for using your arranged overdraft.

  • Declining alerts

    If you decline alerts, you might miss important messages about your account. Make sure you keep track of your balance and regularly check your statements in the app, online or telephone banking.

    Overdrafts

    To stop receiving alerts about your:

    • arranged overdrafts, text STOPA to 65552
    • unarranged overdrafts, text STOPU to 65552
    • arranged and unarranged overdrafts text STOP to 65552.

    Savings accounts

    To stop receiving alerts about your:

    • savings account applications, text ASTOP to 62229
    • existing savings accounts, text BSTOP to 62229
    • new applications and existing accounts, text STOP to 62229.

    Check with your phone provider to see if you’ll be charged to send SMS messages.

    You may still receive alerts from us for up to 24 hours.

  • Setting up alerts

    If you have declined text alerts in the past, you can change your mind and sign up.

    Overdrafts

    To receive alerts about your:

    • arranged overdrafts, text STARTA to 65552
    • unarranged overdrafts, text STARTU to 65552
    • arranged and unarranged overdrafts text START to 65552.

    Savings accounts

    To receive alerts about your:

    • savings account applications, text ASTART to 62229
    • existing savings accounts, text BSTART to 62229
    • new applications and existing accounts, text START to 62229.

    Please check with your phone provider to see if you’ll be charged to send SMS messages. We don’t charge you when we send alerts.

  • Mandatory alerts

    We may also send you text alerts when:

    • you ask us to update your phone number
    • you set up a new person or company to receive a payment
    • we need to speak to you before we make a payment
    • we refuse a payment
    • we suspect any fraud related activity.

    You can't stop these alerts.

    Youth and Basic accounts

    If you have a Youth or Basic account, we'll only send you unarranged overdraft alerts.

    When you're abroad

    If you have an international number or you’re abroad, you can still get alerts. Just check with your service provider about any charges for sending or receiving texts.

    App notifications

    If you use our app, you can receive push notifications when your balance after pending falls to between £0 and £50. Turn these on or off in the app through your notification settings. Your choice will apply to all your current accounts.
